ALL HALLOW’S EVE or later known as HALLOWEEN is celebrated every year on October 31st. This not only signifies the end of the Harvest but the start of Winter, the darker part of the year. It is thought that this tradition was started by the Celtic pagans, who celebrated ‘Samhain’ which was a festival that dates back to early Irish Mythology. The Celts believed that this night also opened up the two worlds of the living and the dead. They believed that the spirits of the dead could return to earth through the open portal. The spirits of dead family members would visit their homes and a place would be set for them. During the festival, costumes were worn, sacrifices were made and bonfires were lit to ward off evil spirits.
