After speaking with family, friends and acquaintances, some of them just do not go for the Nautical theme but most of them do, as long as it’s tastefully done. I do agree with that. I love the natural pastel colors associated with the beach and the ocean. There was a bit of lull about 2 years ago but now it has once again gained its appeal. Certainly, depending on where you live can define how you use your décor. We have lived in Maine, and we have experienced the four seasons in which nature and the ocean have it’s moods. The scenic jagged coastline has its uniqueness with scattered lobster traps and buoys. The Italian and Greek Revival architecture accommodates the New England weather and lifestyle. We have also lived the island life in Key West, I love the vibrant and tropical colors of the crystal-clear water, sea life and culture. So many artists reside there, and their interpretation of this paradise is truly amazing. You really get to see the island by renting a bike and stopping at each little bar or restaurant for a well-earned beverage! Put all this together and I think my house reflects both of these amazing cultures.
We all have our own style, and we may have pieces in our homes that belonged to our family members. We have moved eighteen times, and I always try to collect furniture and items that would match any color scheme. I do prefer a neutral color on the walls and the I can incorporate as many subtle or bright colors I feel are appropriate. I move decor around every so often. The wooden chair above is a Wesley Hall Ladder Back Chair. It’s been with me for a few years, and I swap the pillows out periodically. I totally love it.
